Deputy Sector Marshal

Deputy Sector Marshals are the first level of leadership, and are key to organising marshals and parts of the course for racing.

Whats involved

PRIOR PLANNING

Deputy Sector Marshals (DSM’s) are key to ensuring the smooth running of marshalling points within their sector.

They are responsible to the Chief Sector Marshal and assist them in ensuring the that the course and marshals are prepped and ready to go before the race starts.

DSM's co-ordinate an inspection of the area and ensure that all the necessary equipment is present and in working order and that all event paperwork is completed.

DSM's also make sure everything is in place in your area, to ensure the safety of the Marshals, Riders, Officials and Public.

TEAMWORKING

DSM's give team briefings ahead of a practice or race session, to ensure everyone is up to speed with changes at their location

They also check that marshal, including new novices, will assign roles and check that marshals are comfortable with what they have been allocated to do

DSM's arrange to show equipment and procedure familiarisation at suitable times, so that everyone is up to speed with safety procedures
